Hope you all are doing lovely and feeling great! Today for the Dark-skinned Girls Rock! series we're featuring the lovely Mel of M3llow Yellow. Find out more about her below!
Mel
Everyone meet Mel! She's a 25 year old student from Washington D.C.!
Describe yourself in 3 words: Funny, charming, and chill.
Tell us about your personal style: I like to believe my style is blend of edgy, classic, and androgynous. I take the less is more approach when it comes to selecting my clothes. I'm naturally drawn to clean lines and silhouettes.
Who are your style icons? My style icons are Solange Knowles, Gwen Stefani, Kate Lamphear, and Rihanna.
Have you ever struggled with self-identity issues because of your complexion? If so what are some things you did to accept yourself for who you are and love yourself?
Growing up in the south I would say that I was made aware of my darker hue. Even though I got ridiculed when I was younger about my darker complexion I never developed any issues about it. I guess I have my family to thank for that.

Do you have any advice for other dark-skinned women that are struggling with accepting themselves because of the color of their skin?
I would advise other dark-skinned women to seek the beauty in themselves before they look to others. I know its totally cliche but if you cannot love yourself then who will? Also, I would advise them not to let their skin color be their sole defining factor because they are sooooo much more than that. Another piece of advice I'd like to give is don't confine yourself to colors wether it be clothing or makeup that you think is only suitable for dark skin. Dark skin makes so many colors pop.
What do you like most about being dark-skinned?
What I love about being dark-skin is the richness and regality that embodies our hue. I especially feel this way when I have a summer tan! I love everything about my complexion honestly.
Thank you so much Mel for participating and sharing your story with us! I love how you said that we are so much more than a skin color. And yes ladies don't be scared to rock neon colors or blue eyeshadow...we can wear any color we want! Don't forget to check out Mel's blog, M3llow Yellow, and you can catch her tweeting @M3lloyellow.
