Dark-Skinned Girls Rock!: Jessie

Hey Everyone,

Hope you all are doing lovely and feeling great. Today for the Dark-Skinned Girls Rock! series we're featuring Jessie from Queen Persona by Jessie LaQueenia. Check her out below!

Jessie LaQueenia
She's a 24 year old "Mom first, Active Duty Air Force Member, Business Woman, Owner of Queen Persona by Jessie LaQueenia LLC, Personal Stylist, Blogger, and Journalism Student" from Alabama but she resides in Washington and is currently living in Kyrgyzstan.

Describe yourself in 3 words: anointed, ambitious, determined

Explain your personal style. My Own, I wear what I want when I want how I want. (Besides when I'm in uniform of course lol).

Who are your style icons?
Carrie from Sex in the City (Sarah-Jessica Parker) and Tracee Ellis Ross.

Have you ever struggled with self-identity issues because of your complexion? If so what are some things you did to accept yourself for who you are and love yourself?
Growing up I was called everything BUT beautiful. Because of my skin color I didn't feel pretty. Because of the size of my lips I didn't feel pretty. Because of my cat eyes I didn't feel pretty. Once I learned learned my worth as a Woman of God I learned not only to accept myself but to love myself as well. Everything I hated about myself growing up I learned to love about myself. Those lips I hated I wouldn't want to be without. Those eyes I hated I wouldn't want to be without. Most importantly the skin I hated I wouldn't dare ask that it be taken away. I LOVE THE SKIN I'M IN! #BlackBeauty

Do you have any advice for other dark-skinned women that are struggling with accepting themselves because of the color of their skin?
Know your worth as a Woman of God. God makes no mistakes and He created you according to His liking. Embrace the fact that you are YOU. Love the fact that you are YOU. Always walk with your head held high looking the world right in the eye.

What do you like most about being dark-skinned?
That even though my skin may be among the darkest of skin colors...I still have the ability to light up the darkest room when I walk in.

Thank you sooo much Jessie for participating in the series and sharing your story with us! You're beautiful lady! Love how you said that God made no mistakes when he created any of us. He sure didnt.
