Tell us about your personal style.
My Personal style works with my mood and how I am feeling that day. It’s very unpredictable; I can be classy, chic one minute and edgy the next. My love for bold prints results in my personal style being generally colorful and quirky.
Knowles, and Rihanna.
Have you ever struggled with self-identity issues because of your complexion? If so what are some things you did to accept yourself for who you are and love yourself?
Living in the Caribbean we see different complexions everyday. I never grew up in any way to discriminate, or bully anyone. I’ve learned to respect and feel comfortable in my own skin and to know that we are God’s children. Sometimes I wished that my complexion was much more light skin or white, because a lot of my friends are and always made me feel like the odd one out . But as I got older I have seen so many women, like my mother and grandmother who were comfortable with their complexion and learned to love it; that made me realize that I am not judged by the complexion of my skin, but the person that I am.
Do you have any advice for other dark-skinned women that are struggling with accepting themselves because of the color of their skin?
I have many to tell you, but just few that are important. Always remember that God is our creator and your complexion speaks so much about who you are. Always have confidence and remember that self-esteem plays a big role in being confident. Be comfortable with who you are, if you're not then its time that you learn how to be comfortable with yourself. Always remember that you can always wear makeup to cover up the outside, but what really count is what’s on the inside... whats on the inside can change your life.
Thank you so much Julesia for participating in the series!! Love how you said that what we have on the inside can change our outlook on life. That is so true!
